The Ops Team #29 – “Or is it Episode 30?”

This week on The Ops Team, WE HAVE 5 PEOPLE. Unbelievable. That also means that it’s the longest episode in Ops Team history, clocking in over 40 minutes long. Approaching Lord of the Rings territory there! Matt and Oguz are joined by new recruit Damien (well, new to Redmond), and some visiting Technical Evangelists, Julien and William from the Canadian subsidiary, to bring you up to speed with the latest IT news.

In the news, Julien, William and David all give us a recap of some recent OSS conferences; LinuxCon, GitHub Octoverse and Jenkins World 2016 respectively. Matt brings you the latest on-prem info on Nano Server, OMS, Azure Stack, Windows Server 2016 and of Azure Stuff, shares some useful networking guidance, and some enhancements to data encryption in Azure. Oguz shares the latest on VSTS, performance of Bash on Windows, a new alternative Linux subsystem project for Windows, and some other announcements in the Open Source world!

The Ops Team is a (sometimes) weekly show where (occasionally) 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, we’re back down to 2 of the regulars, with Matt and Oguz bringing you up to speed with the latest IT news. It’s a little chilly in the Ops Team studio this week – someone obviously forgot to pay the last heating bill, and whilst you can’t quite see our breath, trust us, it was COLD! In the news, Matt brings us up to speed with a new, free, ebook and free Microsoft Virtual Academy course, along with some cool resources for storage, Hyper-V Scale and VMware integration. In between those two areas, Oguz shares news on a new Azure App Service with MySQL, some VSTS authentication enhancements, and rounds out with a plethora of MVA courses, all of course, FREE! 🙂 Enjoy!

This week on The Ops Team, David’s back, joining Matt and Oguz in the ‘studio’. No camera issues again this week, our wall is now a lovely shade of yellow. You’d have never known there was a power box there. But we know the truth. In the news, David kicks off the show with some great resources on deploying .NET Core in Docker Containers, using feature Flags, integration with Jenkins, and an automated way to extract files. Matt brings us some great resources for architecting apps and workloads on Azure, along with some new Red Hat on Azure content. Oguz follows on with support for .NET on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, along with some new DNS Security Appliances on Azure. This week on The Ops Team, it’s just Matt and Oguz in the ‘studio’, with David MIA. No camera issues again this week, and hopefully you can see the progress the decorators are making on the wall behind – we now have a lovely textured white wall where the power boxes used to be – let’s hope there’s no more ghostly apparitions appearing there this week! In the news, there’s lots of love for Docker this week, after the recent DockerCon conference with both Matt and Oguz giving hat-tips to one of the most popular names in tech right now!

This week on The Ops Team, further reconstruction work results in a change in angle for the security camera, and with Simon still on vacation (we think!) it’s left to Matt, Oguz and David to bring you up to speed with the latest news. David brings us up to speed with the latest news on Visual Studio, including Visual Studio Code and TFS enhancements. The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, the surrounding building continues to be demolished and reconstructed, but the team manage to safely make it into the studio, apart from David, who apparently can’t read a watch (digital, or analog) and decided to turn up late. We’re a good-natured bunch so we still allowed him to participate! In the news, Oguz kicks us off with some key advances from Docker, along with some great Hands-on-Lab learning resources. Simon gives us the gossip around Intune support for the latest version of IOS, along with some great references for Windows management. Matt showcases a cool update for the OMS mobile app, along with sharing some other cool resources from the community and Microsoft. David, after finally turning up, shares what he’s been up to over the last few weeks, and finally, it’s back to Matt to bring us home with news about Azure, including, brace yourself….some licensing news….!

Just about everything that could go wrong with the cameras, did go wrong, but stick with us through to the end! Oguz talks Docker and Containers, along with some cool new support for frameworks on Nano Server.
